Chicago Fire finale revealed as fans left unimpressed after show removed from air

Chicago Fire fans were left unimpressed after the most recent episode aired when they learned that the NBC show would not be returning to screens for a number of weeks.

The One Chicago franchise, which often takes routine breaks during its run, is on the 11th season and will soon air the final episode. But when can fans expect to see the last instalment?

Following a short break from airing on NBC, One Chicago fans will see the show return on 3 May. NBC has also confirmed that the season 11 finale will air on Wednesday, May 24, which will mark the 22nd episode in the series.

A representative for NBC said: "This is normal scheduling for the Chicago shows. You need a balance of original and encore episodes so that the season can run from September through May."

Fans were quick to react to the show's hiatus on social media. One person wrote: "#ChicagoFire Come on... we get a couple of shows then another break every time... I need more Chicago Fire, and Severide."

A second was in agreement, adding: "May 3rd!?!?!? I have to wait till then! They better not touch Carver or I'm out! Nothing better happen to @LocktDown or else! I hate these long breaks even though I know why. #ChicagoFire."

A third added: "Every time One Chicago Shows return they gotta go back on break after five episodes. We could've at least had all new ones. Oh well see you next month."

Meanwhile, Chicago Fire has had an eventful run of season 11 thanks to the surprise exit of Taylor Kinney, who plays Lieutenant Kelly Severide, and the return of Jesse Spencer as Matthew Casey.

Casey came back to Firehouse 51 in last week's episode. The synopsis read: "A familiar face returns to Firehouse 51 to serve with Kidd on a special task force; with Tony close to breaking the CFD's perfect attendance record, Mouch and Capp work to keep him safe; old grudges resurface when Gallo reunites with a family member."
