Matt Schaub is a professional American football player, who plays quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League. He was selected by the University of Virginia Falcons in the 2004 NFL Draft. He has played professional football for other NFL teams including the Baltimore Ravens, Oakland Raiders, and Houston Texans. Since the start of his career, Matt has been a two-time Pro Bowler. Born Matthew Rutledge Schaub in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 25, 1981, Matt was born to Dale Shaub and his wife Debbie Schaub. He grew up in West Chester, where he attended West Chester East High School, Pennsylvania. In high school, Matt was a three-sport star; he played basketball, football and baseball. After his high school career, he went to the University of Virginia where he played college football with the Virginia Cavaliers.
During his freshman year in 1999, he was redshirted and he joined the team the following year. Matt didn’t get much playing time as he played alongside Dan Ellis and Bryson Spinner. At one point, when Dan Ellis was out with an injury, Matt and Spinner were allowed nearly equal playing time as they both alternated playing. The following year, he transferred to the University of Richmond where he continued his academic career. Matt Schaub was selected by the Atlanta Falcons 90th overall draft in the third round of the 2004 NFL Draft. He was drafted alongside Eli Manning and Ben Roethlisberger the same year. On joining the Falcons, he replaced Michael Vick, having only played six games with the team in 2004.
